Brown Sugar Overnight Oats (Printable)

Creamy oats sweetened with brown sugar and vanilla, ready in the morning.

# What You'll Need:

→ Oats Base

01 - 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
02 - 1 cup milk (dairy or plant-based)
03 - 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
04 - 2 tbsp brown sugar
05 - 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
06 - Pinch of salt

→ Toppings

07 - 1/2 cup fresh berries or sliced banana
08 - 1 tbsp chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans)
09 - 1 tbsp chia seeds or flaxseeds

# Steps:

01 - In a medium bowl or large jar, combine oats, milk, Greek yogurt, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Stir well until fully integrated and smooth.
02 - Cover container and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight, allowing oats to soften and completely absorb the liquid mixture.
03 - In the morning, stir thoroughly. Add a splash of milk if thinner consistency is preferred.
04 - Divide between two bowls or jars. Top with fresh fruit, nuts, and seeds as desired. Serve chilled.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • The brown sugar creates these tiny pockets of caramel sweetness throughout each bite
  • Mornings when you're running late suddenly feel luxurious instead of panicked
  • You can customize the toppings based on whatever's looking sad in your fruit bowl
02 -
  • The oats continue softening the longer they sit so day three is significantly different from day one
  • Mason jars look pretty on Instagram but wide mouth containers make stirring and cleaning actually pleasant
  • Frozen fruit works if you let it thaw slightly on top but it will release water into your oats
03 -
  • The jar lid goes on loosely at first to let any residual heat escape before sealing completely
  • Warming your vanilla extract in the spoon for 10 seconds releases more aromatic compounds
