Firecracker Hot Dogs (Printable)

Crescent-wrapped hot dogs brushed with butter and baked until golden—an easy, crowd-pleasing party snack.

# What You'll Need:

→ Meats

01 - 8 beef or turkey hot dogs

→ Dough & Pastry

02 - 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
03 - 8 thin slices cheddar cheese or American cheese (optional)

→ Toppings

04 - 2 tablespoons melted butter
05 - 1 teaspoon garlic powder
06 - 2 tablespoons sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional)
07 - 8 wooden skewers

→ Garnishes

08 - Ketchup, as needed (optional)
09 - Mustard, as needed (optional)

# Steps:

01 - Preheat oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
02 - Insert a wooden skewer lengthwise into each hot dog, leaving 1 to 2 inches exposed at one end.
03 - Unroll crescent dough and separate into 8 triangles. Place one slice of cheese on each triangle if using.
04 - Place a hot dog at the wide end of each dough triangle and roll tightly so the dough spirals around the hot dog.
05 - Arrange the wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet. Brush each with melted butter and sprinkle with garlic powder and, if desired, sesame or poppy seeds.
06 - Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the dough is golden and fully cooked.
07 - Serve hot with ketchup and mustard for dipping.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • The flaky crust hides an oozy cheese surprise and makes hot dogs way more fun.
  • They come together so quickly you can assemble a platter even while wrangling kids or prepping for guests.
02 -
  • If you roll the dough too loosely, it unravels and melts off the hot dog—keep it snug but not stretched.
  • Letting the hot dogs dry a bit on paper towels first helps the dough stick better for a nice finish.
03 -
  • Keep the dough cold until assembly or it sticks to your hands more than the hot dog.
  • Brushing with just a dab more butter as soon as they come out keeps them extra tender.
